A wonderful place, even if a bit pricey for China. Staff are very accommodating. Hotel oozes with history. A must stay, at least once, if you are ever in Shanghai. Hotel is right across from the Russian Consulate and is along the Bund. Lots of beautiful buildings within walking distance, and some excellent restaurants as well. This hotel is not like any other place you will stay in China. I wondered the halls looking at the pictures of old Shanghai and enjoying the 19th century architecture. I’d stay there again in a heartbeat. Currently the river walk is under construction, but even with that being the case the location is excellent. Rooms were overly spacious, but lacking art on the room walls. Floors were mid 19th century wood planking. Modern accommodations like the internet were excellent. Breakfast buffet was first rate. And the bed was not like sleeping on the lobby floor…something you seasoned China travelers will appreciate. Location will be stellar once the construction along the river is completed. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, all of the Bund is under construction for the 2010 World Expo, so the location is not ideal right now, but it will be again soon. Hotel is an old, genteel hotel and looks and feels like one. I would recommend it.

Short walk to Bund, Qi Pu Lu Wholesale Market and Nanjing Road and subway. Watch out for taxi drivers; many are reckless and get lost easily.
