At the beginning of last century, bank capitalists had developed this architectural complex in the style of classic Chinese row house communities and named it 7 Sages Hotel. The original site contains 10 courts and the hotel is situated in court No.5 & No.6.
It went through, in different periods of time, being an underground revolution activities post, a red army liaison office, and a reception centre for people involved in the war fighting against Japanese invasion during the first half of the last century. A memorial museum is just next to the hostel within the same compound.
Entering the 7 Sages Hotel, the hustle and bustle of the cities seems far away. You can sense its tranquil and plain atomosphere, which only can be profoundly experienced in this classic Chinese row house community. The whole setting of the hotel is romantic and its design is based on row tiles and white walls, timber windows, and a straight path through a circular arch courtyard planted with trees. All these form a harmonious picture that enables us to contemplate the return of the close bond between nature and earth. Staying here, we get close to the earth, to the plants and trees, and also get close to the soul of each other. Therefore, the harmony and unity between nature and habitation has been achieved.
