The 88-year-old Beijing Dongfang Hotel is formed by structures from three different periods: 1918, 1983, and 1985. After the current renovation, all the guest rooms in the main building are installed with flaring balcony that provide comfortable space and excellent lighting effects. The brand new furniture and fittings make cozy living conditions for the guests.
The restoration of its historic 1918 building accentuates the Orient Hotel's nostalgic atmosphere. Incorporating a European style courtyard garden and a tower dating from the early 20th century, the hotel blends classic Chinese and Western design. The hotel's 'Old House 1918 Coffee Shop' and the enclosed adjacent garden blend together seamlessly.
The hotel has 288 standard rooms and suites, which are all designed and constructed according to 4-star criteria.
The hotel restaurant is located on the second floor of the main building. Its 400 square meter area can serve 250 people at one time.
The Old House 1918 Coffee Shop is located on the first floor of the auxiliary building, which is adjacent to the hotel garden. The elegant and classical design of the 120 square meter space provides a sense of relaxation to its customers.
The hotel has five meeting rooms, which can hold various kinds of business meetings, ranging from 10 to 200 persons. An 1100 square meter parking lot is also built. The hotel is equipped with an Oriental dance hall, business center, beauty salons, currency exchange, ticketing and travel service, bicycle rental, parking, and other services. All these assure our guests a quality of service that combines comfort and efficiency with the warmth of home.

The traffic is convenient, 1.5 Kms from Tia-nanmen Square and 5 Kms from the railway station. It ta-kes 35 minutes to get to the Capital Airport by car.

The unique flaring pattern increased the space for the guest room and the bathroom. I stayed with this hotel because the tour I joined used them. The rooms are fine and they have HBO Tv channel which is great! The location is good and lotsof little restaurants and shops and all within walking distance to main sights. Most of the staff I encountered were helpful and pleasant.
However, I booked 3 extra nights with Sinohotel but checked out after one night as the reception staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful. They have no sense of logic and even have the gall to throw money and receipts at you when you ask them for your change from the deposit. They wanted to keep the surplus to pay for the follwing night even though I needed to buy my dinner that night with the change! They also talk about you to each other in front of you. Even though I speak a little chinese, it was quite obvious from their angry gestures and dirty looks. The tour leader with me a the time confirmed that this is a partiucular problem with this hotel. |
