Good location, just down an underpass to bell tower. Only cost bout 10RMB from railway to hotel. However, not quite up to scratch for a 4 star hotel! Very dark and dingy, slightly dirty, air conditioning doesnt work well. |

Bell Tower Hotel
Xian
Stayed 2 nights (October 21-23 2008).
Excellent location, across the street from the Bell Tower. Had room 441, which had a balcony and large windows to enjoy the city views. Twin beds, nasty carpeting. The hotel needs to replace ALL carpeting, bedrooms and hallways. I can understand the dirtiness because of the extensive pollution in the city. Bedroom slippers were provided. Small bathroom. A/C, tv, desk, small closet. The airport shuttle bus stops around the corner, only a 4-5 minute walk, so it's easy to get to/from the airport by bus if you don't have tons of luggage. We never used the restaurant, leisure or business facilities with the exception of the Internet room one night. Price was reasonable. Also located close to the Muslim quarter, which has great shopping - be sure to bargain! - And dining opportunities: lots of restaurants and street vendors. Overall, I was satisfied with our stay at the Bell Tower knowing about the cleanliness prior to booking. Location is very important when I book a hotel. Lastly, it's very easy to get to the Terra Cotta Warriors on your own: take a taxi from the hotel to the train station (9 RMB) and take the green bus, Number 306, to the Warriors. It was just over an hour drive for 7 RMB. Entry fee is 90 RMB. Plan to spend 3-4 hours to really enjoy the sights.
Dinner suggestions: "Life Du Du Family Cuisine" Fabulous eggplant dish; squid with celery; beef with cucumber; vegetable rolls; and a plate of various sautéed mushrooms (83RMB for 3 people). It's located near the hotel (exit and turn right onto the main street and head up for a block or two. Turn left. I don't have the street name off hand, so ask at the hotel. Also, dinner at Jiasan Guantang Baozi on Bei Yuan Men 93, in the heart of the Muslim quarter main street, up on the right. Excellent steamed buns.

location is top, you can easily walk to most of the touristic spots in the city. Rooms are big and clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was very good but the service staff in the breakfast room was not very attentive. |
