The Chong Wen Men Hotel is located at the side of Chong Wen Men Cross downtown Beijing. It is a three star hotel which combines tourism, food and beverage, and recreation. The building stands out against the others with its modern style. The hotel was redecorated in 2006. It will welcome to every guest with a brand-new look.
The more than three hundred suites are of different standards, and are all very comfortable. Its famous Maxim's Restaurant and Lou Zhong Yuan Restaurant, advanced and convenient business and conference services, recreation facilities and stylist center welcome guests from all over the world.
At reasonable prices, elegant and impressive meeting rooms of different sizes are available. Facilities such as projector, screen, audio system, VCD, video cassette recorder and white board are provided. Sizes of the meeting rooms range from 60 to 200 square meters, and are capable of 20 to 100 people for discussion, training, seminars, or small sized press meetings. Service staff will be designated. The Hotel lays in a very nice location, very close to the downtown. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the restaurant could be better, there are a lot of staff doing nothing. The price is acceptable because the location and the plenty space in the rooms. Say to them a complementary water bottle will be very nice.

Next to subway, local marketplace, and good clean chinese fast-food resturant (Yong He). About a 10-minute walk to the train station. Also close to New World Shopping Mall, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Starbucks. (But with the coffee at Starbucks ranging from 12-20 yuan it's practially the same price as back home, and very expensive by local standards. We opted for buying instant coffee and bottled water from the market next door and having coffee in our room.) The small dumpling/noodle resturant next door is always full, and has windows around the kithen so you can see it's clean.
A couple of times the front desk was "too busy" to exchange money for us, but when the manager was present the service was very good.
The subway is pretty convenient to get to most places, but there are always taxis stationed in front of the hotel to go to the Summer Palace or take a day trip to the Great Wall (Renting a taxi for a day should be around 400 yuan, but the driver will tell you 800. Ask for 400 and he'll say no. Just say, "No" and start walking across the street to Novotel, and he'll follow after you and say 400 is OK.) |

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. It is located at a very convenient location, next to the underground railway station, so it is very easy to move around the city by public transport. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The room is not big but has all the facilities and is clean and tidy. The Chinese breakfast is cheap at Y15 per head, although there are only limited choices. We enjoyed the stay and regard this is really good value for money and will recommend this to our Australian friends.
