The Shanghai Zhong Ya hotel is a grand comprehensive 3-star hotel. The hotel is located in the south square of Shanghai Railway Station, in the heart of the so-called Ever Bright City, one of the main shopping centers in Shanghai. Right after checking in the hotel employee called me in my room to ask if I would be her friend and teach her English. Hotel employees should never call the customers of the hotel with their personal business; this is frankly unacceptable. Not to mention that I had *just* checked in and was exhausted from my flight.
I don't mind hotel rooms being a bit worn, but the room I was assigned was downright filthy. The beed sheets were clean, but the floor, shower and toilet were disgusting.
It might also be a problem for some that the staff doesn't speak English well at all, though this is fine if you speak some Chinese.
The Zhongya Hotel has two things going for it: location and the fact that it's a well-known hotel with Shanghai's taxi drivers. Other than that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. |

Only thing hotel carpets are bit worned, other than that, rooms and entire hotel are very clean and professionally run. English spoken by several staff members. Breakfast buffet was great. American and chinese choices. Had 2 English channels on TV. Location was super. 3 subway lines and main train station right outside door. |

Excellent location. Next to Metro stop line 1 and 4. Across the street from the railway station and a block away from the main long distance bus station. |
