The Imperial Palace Hotel, Tianjin is the first and only boutique hotel built in 1923 by a British merchant with an impressive oriental architectural design, ideally located in the central financial and shopping district of Tianjin city. In 1995, the Sino-Singapore joint venture party assumed management and started an extensive renovation of the hotel with modern comforts. Throughout the years, it still maintains its original copy ambience to make your stay more enjoyable and memorable.

This hotel was a bit strange. First, they required a huge ($100 US) deposit. Second, the much-heralded Thai buffet is no longer in operation. The breakfast staff will assault you if you check out the breakfast buffet without your meal-voucher, so be warned. And related to that, you must secure your meal-voucher every evening. It will not be given to you, you must demand it. That being said, the breakfast was okay. The worst thing that happened was that our air conditioner broke and we had to change rooms. In our new room, the bathtub drain-stopper was broken, so no nice bath. A really weird hotel, but cheap and clean. |

There was no Fitness Center. There was no Shopping Arcade. The beauty salon was never open. There was no travel service or ticketing agencies. The free breakfast was good though, and there was a train ticket office across the road. The shower had low water pressure. However the rooms where spacious. |
