Wuzhen Attractions:

Former Residence of Mao Dun--Mao Dun is a famous literature Writer in modern China, with novel of ‘‘Midnight'', etc. literary      works. His former home is located in the middle part of  Guan      Qian Street of the town, where he had his happy childhood. The home is a traditional Chinese style house built in Qing Dynasty.

Xiu Zhen Guan--It is a Taoist temple which is built in Xian Ping     Yuan period of Bei Song Dynasty. It is one of three famous Taoist temples in South Bank in   Yangtze River.

Xiu Zhen Guan Stage--The stage is built in 1749. It is sitting back on a major river of the     town and facing a plaza. In the ancient time, farmers around the town came to watch plays by rowing boat. While a play was going on, boats were floating on the river4.

Pavilion--There is a length of 1000 meters wriggling corridor along the bank of a river,       which demonstrate a particular charming of towns in south Bank of Yangtze River.

Local Housing--An architectural comple x that is a legacy of Qing Dynasty reflects local        architectural style and humanity.

Pingyao Food and specialties：

Pingyao has many special food and products including                 Wantuoze, Pingyao Beef, Lacquer, Handmade cloth shoes. etc.

Wantuoze & Pingyao Braised Beef--Wantuoze is a kind of         round flat noodle that is rolled and dipped in sauce. It is a            traditional Pingyao food dating back to the Qing dynasty, more    than one hundred years ago. Ancient Pingyaoneses began to braise beef in the Han             dynasties. They prepare the beef with five-aroma seasoning so the stuff is tender, fragrant and tasty. All the cattle are well selected for the older the cattle are and the more fragrant   the braised beef is.

Polished Lacquer ware--Polished Lacquer ware from Pingyao is well-known for its elegant  finish and graceful designs. The wooden craftwork is coated with paint manually for several times and polished after each coat. Such process makes the craftworks endure heat and      moisture thus keeps the color forever. Famous lacquer items include jewelry boxes,            wardrobes, large and small screens, bowls and plates.

Handmade cloth shoes--When traveling Pingyao, you will see a number of middle-aged        ladies sitting in front of their homes sewing shoes for themselves. Handmade cloth shoes     from Pingyao feature unique designs, elaborate processing and elegant looking. They are often embroidered with figures of animals and natural flowers which not only make the shoes more pretty but are supposed to drive away evil and bring about good luck. These               genuinely hand-made shoes have the advantage of good ventilation and sweat absorption and being comfortable to wear.

Baba is sold all around northwest Yunnan, where it mostly           consists of a piece of flat rice dough that's grilled or fried and       flavored with salty and spicy seasonings. In Dali, the dough is      stuffed with salted vegetables, sweet sauce, chili sauce, crushed peanuts, and youtiao (fried, salty doughnut) and grilled to           tender perfection. Other typical local dishes include shaguo yu (stewed fish casserole) and   the Bai specialty, rushan (milk fan), a delicious local goat's cheese sliced in thin layers and    fried until "rubbery."

The foreigners' cafes clustered along Huguo Lu and Bo'ai Lu serve inexpensive and               generally tasty Western, Chinese, Bai, and Tibetan meals.

Shopping

Dali's growing season is almost never ending and fruit here is nothing like you see in the     average supermarket. Watch out for peaches so large that they would frighten even Roald Dahl, sweet syrupy figs, and dozens of different apple-pear combinations. Hundreds of         shops in town sell Dali marble, famous for its beautiful cloudlike patterns and anticorrosive   nature. Other local specialties include sliced walnut vases and lampshades, but a block of     pu'er tea might be a little wiser.
