(formerly Romanized as Peking, briefly known as
Peiping in Wade-Giles (WG) or Beiping in
pinyin (py)) was and has been the capital of
various Chinese governments including (sorted chronologically): State of Yan (Yen in WG) in Spring and Autumn Period (722-481 BC): called Ji (薊 Jì). Liao Dynasty (907-1125), as a secondary

Yuan Dynasty (1271 to 1368): Khanbaliq (Mongolian: the
Khan's city); translated to

Polo. Ming Dynasty since Yongle Emperor of China
(1402/1424-1644): called Jīngshī (京師
"capital"). Qing Dynasty since the

Hangzhou City, capital of Zhejiang province. It lies at the head
of Zhejiang Bay and is the southern terminus of the Grand
Canal. Its buildings and gardens are renowned, and some of
China's most famous monasteries are located nearby. As
Lin'an, it was the capital of the Song dynasty c.
AD 1126 – 1279.
A prosperous centre of commerce with an estimated population
then of 1 – 1.5 million, it was visited in the late 13th century
by the Italian traveler Marco Polo, who called it
Kinsai. Its
importance as a port decreased as the bay silted up, but it
remained a commercial centre and was opened to foreign trade in
1896. In addition to its cultural
importance, it is also the centre for an industrial area.

River South---Looking for the oblivious memory
Wuzhen,
located in the north of Zhejiang Province, is embraced by
the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal with rivers and canals
crisscrossing the whole town.
For hundreds of years, its residents have
been building houses along the rivers and
trading near the bridges. The ancient docks, waterside
pavilions, and corridors stretch out for miles and erect
a romantic
atmosphere that is typical to Jiang Nan water towns.

Dali,
in Yunnan Province, 392km (243 miles) NW of Kunming, 15km (9 miles) N of Xiaguan, 150km (90 miles) S of Li Jiang.
Located in a mountain valley at an elevation of 1,948m
(6,496 ft.), Dali is sunny
year-round, though winter nights can be chilly. The best
times to visit are between February and October,
when the majority of festivals take place.
