청도는 산동반도의 남부에 위치하며 남으로는 황해, 서북으로는 내륙과 인접해 있다. 지형은 낮은 산과 구릉지형으로 도시 전체는 남북 두 곳이 솟아있으며 중간이 낮고 평평하다. 해안선은 730킬로미터이며 해안에는 곶과 만이 섞여있다. 남에서 북으로 모두 49곳의 만이 있으며 수역면적은 466평방킬로미커이다. 크고 작은 섬이 모두 52개가 있다. 현재 청도는 북부, 시북, 대동, 사방, 창구, 황도, 노산의 7개 구와 교주, 즉묵, 평도, 래서, 교남의 5대 현급 시로 나뉘어진다. 총 면적은 10654평방킬로미터이다. 총 인구는 675.4만 명이다.
